Privacy Policy

Quizzy McQuizface ("the app") is a real-time multiplayer trivia game. This policy explains what information the app handles when you play, why, and who it's shared with. It's written in plain language and describes what the app actually does — not a generic template.

Who this policy covers

Quizzy McQuizface is developed by Cameron Hasan, operating as a sole trader. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

What information the app collects

• Display name. When you create or join a quiz, you choose a display name. It's shown to the other players in your session for the duration of that session. It is not linked to any account, email address, or persistent identity.
• Quiz topics. If you're hosting, the round topics you type in are used to generate that round's questions.
• IP address. Used only in memory, only for the duration of your connection, to apply rate limits that stop abuse of the game server (for example, spamming join requests). It is not stored, logged, or linked to your display name.
• Report content. If you use the in-app Report feature on another player's name or topic, the report (reporter name, reported name, reason, and timestamp) is written to the server's operational logs so it can be reviewed. This is the only content that persists beyond a single session, and it exists solely for moderation.

The app does not ask for your email address, phone number, real name, payment details, or location, and does not use advertising or analytics tracking of any kind.

Where your information goes

Two categories of third party are involved in running the app:

• Google Gemini API. The topics you enter (and display names, for moderation) are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate quiz questions and to check that names and topics don't contain inappropriate content. Google processes this data under its own privacy terms.
• OpenAI API (fallback only). Gemini has a limited daily quota shared across all players. If that quota runs out, the app falls back to OpenAI to generate the questions for whatever part of a round Gemini couldn't cover — this happens only occasionally, and only for the shortfall, not the whole round. The account used for this fallback is enrolled in OpenAI's free data-sharing program, so topics routed through OpenAI this way may be used by OpenAI to help train their models. If a topic can't be generated by either Gemini or OpenAI, the app falls back again to its own built-in question bank instead.
• Trivia content sources. Some questions are drawn from the Open Trivia Database, TMDB, and MusicBrainz. These are one-way content lookups — no personal data about you is sent to these services.

Your information is never sold, and is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

How long information is kept

Session data (players, scores, chosen topics) lives only in the game server's memory while a quiz is active, and is deleted when the quiz ends or the server restarts — there is no database of past games. Report log entries are the exception: they're kept in server logs for moderation purposes.

Children's privacy

Quizzy McQuizface is not directed at children under 13, and the app does not knowingly collect information from children under that age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change accordingly. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's store listing.
